Freecycle is a network of people and organizations looking to give away and get free goodies in their local metroplexes. A friend turned me on to this when they decided to get rid of an almost new, but barely used lawnmower. It was just taking up valuable garage space, and someone was all to happy to come and get it for free.

What's the catch? None really, but the downside is that more people are looking to get something than give. This makes scrolling through the posts very tiresome. Sometimes there are some treasures: one guy was excited to get a bunch of free packing peanuts from someone who had saved them for years. I guess he had a shipping business?

Best use for something like this? Getting rid of a broken washing machine. If you can't sell it on eBay, it's not worth fixing, and it would cost you to have it hauled off...…
